Picture this: a beautiful spring day in Nova Scotia and a Halifax Wedding at Pickford & Black. The sun is shining, there is a light breeze and love is in the air. A+M’s wedding day was nothing short of magical, and I was lucky enough to be there to capture every special moment!

Getting Ready : Halifax Marriott Harbourfront

The wedding day began at the luxurious Halifax Marriott Harbourfront, where both the bridal party and groomsmen prepared for the celebrations ahead. Nestled along the scenic waterfront, this upscale hotel offers stunning views of Halifax Harbour, providing a serene and picturesque backdrop for pre-wedding preparations. With its elegant suites and top-notch amenities, the Halifax Marriott Harbourfront ensures a comfortable and memorable start to any wedding day. The spacious rooms allowed for a relaxed and joyful atmosphere as the bridesmaids and groomsmen got ready, setting the perfect tone for the beautiful ceremony and festivities that followed.

The excitement was palpable as the bridesmaids, groomsmen, and of course, the bride and groom, got ready for the big day. As a photographer, I thrive on capturing those intimate details – the nervous smiles, the happy tears, the quiet moments of anticipation.

Ceremony : St.Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Halifax

The ceremony at a church in north end Halifax was a beautiful blend of tradition and modernity. The love between A+M was evident in every glance, every touch, every vow. I felt privileged to witness and capture such a special moment in their lives.

Bridal Party Portraits : Halifax Wedding at Pickford & Black

After the ceremony, we hopped on a party bus to explore different spots around Halifax for portraits. Our first stop was the iconic Queen’s Marquee, a stunning waterfront development that offers a blend of modern architecture and historic charm. Next, we headed to the picturesque University of King’s College, known for its beautiful campus and historic buildings. Each location was a canvas for me to work my magic. The light was perfect, the scenery breathtaking and the couple’s love shining through in every shot!

The Importance of Portrait Locations

Having well-thought-out portrait location options on your wedding day brings several benefits. Firstly, it provides a diverse range of backdrops for your photos, adding variety and richness to your wedding album. The contrast between the modern elegance of Queen’s Marquee and the historic charm of King’s College creates a dynamic and visually engaging collection of images. Each location contributes its unique character, making your photos more interesting and memorable.

Secondly, choosing beautiful and meaningful locations enhances the storytelling aspect of your wedding photos. Each spot can reflect different parts of your relationship and your journey together, adding depth and context to your album. For instance, the grandeur of Queen’s Marquee and the academic heritage of King’s College can symbolize different aspects of your love story, making your photos even more personal and significant.

Additionally, having multiple portrait locations allows for more creative opportunities. It gives your photographer the flexibility to experiment with different lighting, angles and compositions. This can lead to a wider variety of shots, from candid moments to dramatic poses, ensuring that your wedding album captures the full spectrum of emotions and experiences from your day.

Logistically, planning your portrait locations in advance can help in maintaining a smooth schedule on your wedding day. By selecting spots that are relatively close to each other, you minimize travel time and maximize the time available for capturing beautiful moments. This reduces stress and allows you to enjoy the experience without feeling rushed.

In summary, opting for thoughtful and picturesque portrait locations like Queen’s Marquee and University of King’s College enriches your wedding day experience. It results in a stunning and diverse collection of photos that beautifully capture the essence of your special day.

Reception : Pickford & Black

Back at the Queen’s Marquee, we gathered for family portraits on the waterfront, a perfect backdrop for capturing the joy and connection between loved ones. The reception at Pickford and Black was nothing short of spectacular – the grand entrance, the delicious dinner, the heartfelt speeches. It was a celebration of love, laughter and new beginnings!

As the sun began to set, we slipped away for sunset portraits on the waterfront. The evening was golden, the light was soft and the love between A+M was simply radiant. It was a moment of magic, captured forever in time.

As the night went on, the guests danced, laughed and celebrated into the wee hours of the morning. It was a true Newfoundland-style party, full of joy and camaraderie.

As a Halifax wedding photographer, I am grateful for the opportunity to capture moments like these – moments of love, joy and connection. A+M’s wedding day was a true reflection of their love story and I am honoured to have been a part of it!
