Despite unpredictable weather from the remnants of Hurricane Debby, this couple’s big day was filled with beautiful moments, laughter and unforgettable memories. From the soft glow of candles in the wine cellar to their heartfelt vows under the clearing sky, every aspect of the day felt like a fairytale come to life. As a wedding photographer, I’m always inspired by couples who embrace the unexpected with grace, and E&B’s celebration was a true testament to love and resilience.

From sun-drenched vows to candid, laughter-filled speeches, this day was one for the books. And it was a complete honour to capture every second of it. The Perfect Setting: Lightfoot & Wolfville
Nestled in the heart of Nova Scotia’s wine country, Lightfoot & Wolfville is one of those venues that seems to have it all—breathtaking views, elegant architecture, and an atmosphere that exudes romance. E&B chose this incredible location for their wedding, and it couldn’t have been more fitting. The couple envisioned a modern yet timeless wedding, and Lightfoot & Wolfville’s rolling vineyards and rustic charm set the perfect stage for their quiet luxury celebration.
From the first moment I arrived, I could feel the couple’s vision come to life. The décor was minimal yet impactful, with soft white florals, delicate paper parasols, and custom-made bows adorning the space. The pièce de résistance was the stunning “just married” vintage cake, paired with a candle-lit wine cellar that created the most magical atmosphere for their reception. Every detail was meticulously thought out to create an atmosphere of understated elegance that let the love between E&B shine through.
A Day of Uncertainty, But Perfect Moments
Weddings are always filled with a mix of emotions, but nothing prepares you for the rollercoaster ride of a wedding day when Mother Nature decides to make her presence known. On the morning of their wedding, the forecast predicted heavy rain from the remnants of Hurricane Debby, which sent a few jitters through the couple’s planning. But as the day unfolded, E&B’s calm and collected approach kept everything in perspective.
The ceremony, originally planned for the vineyard, had to be moved inside at the last minute. While we couldn’t predict when the rain would hit, the couple rolled with the changes with grace, and we found a beautiful indoor location for their vows. But as they stood under the shelter exchanging their personal vows, something magical happened—the sun broke through the clouds in full force. The contrast of the dramatic lighting with the heartfelt emotion of the moment was one of my favourite moments from the day.

While the day had its fair share of unpredictable weather, what truly stood out to me were the moments of pure joy and connection that E&B shared with their friends and family. Brett, in particular, kept everyone in stitches. His infectious humour made him the life of the party, and I could see how his lighthearted spirit made everyone feel at ease.
During the reception, when Brett’s father took the microphone for his speech, the room erupted in laughter. His heartfelt yet hilarious stories about Brett had the entire wedding party in tears—tears of joy, of course. I couldn’t help but smile behind my camera as I captured the candid reactions of their guests. These spontaneous, laughter-filled moments are always the most memorable for me as a photographer. They’re the real moments—the ones that show the true essence of a wedding day.

As much as I love capturing candid moments, I also take great pride in capturing beautiful, editorial-style images that truly reflect the couple’s unique personalities and the atmosphere of the day. E&B’s wedding was no exception. From shooting in the dimly lit wine cellar to managing the challenging lighting during their ceremony, I relished every opportunity to experiment and push my creative boundaries.
The indoor spaces at Lightfoot & Wolfville presented some lighting challenges, particularly during the ceremony, where the couple was backlit by the sun while their guests were seated in the shade. But that’s where the fun of wedding photography comes in—finding creative solutions. Using a mix of natural light, on-camera flash, and off-camera lighting, I was able to capture stunning images that still preserved the natural beauty of the venue and the warmth of the moment.
The reception in the wine cellar, with its candlelit ambiance and rustic charm, was another opportunity to get creative. With minimal lighting and a dark, intimate atmosphere, it took some careful planning to ensure that every shot was lit just right. But it’s moments like these that make me appreciate the artistry of wedding photography—capturing love in its truest form, even in the most challenging conditions.
