You’re Thinking About a Destination Wedding in Mexico?
Let me guess: you’re sitting in your cozy Canadian home, scrolling Pinterest with frozen toes, and wondering what it would be like to trade snowflakes for palm trees and plan a destination wedding in Mexico.
Well… it’s even better than it looks online. (Yes, really. And yes, I’m already mentally packing my bags.)
Destination Wedding Mexico: The Riviera Maya Has Entered the Chat
When I say “Mexico,” I don’t mean anywhere in Mexico. I’m talking about that sun-drenched stretch along the Caribbean coast — think Cancún, Playa Mujeres and Tulum. This corner of the world was practically made for weddings.
Why? Let’s break it down:
- Insane views. You get powdery white sand and turquoise water that looks fake (but isn’t).
- A million vibes in one area. Want chic jungle glam? Go Tulum. All-inclusive ease? Hello, Cancún. Something luxe and secluded? Playa Mujeres.
- Flights are easy. Direct options from Canada all winter long? Yes please.
- It’s budget-flexible. Whether you want a private villa or a dreamy resort, there’s something for everyone.
Basically, destination wedding Mexico = a one-way ticket to sunshine, ceremony magic and no regrets.

I Stayed in Tulum and Didn’t Want to Leave
Okay, personal story time.
When I visited Xela Boutique Hotel in Tulum, I knew immediately: this place feels different. Tucked away, beautifully designed and surrounded by palm shadows and the hum of warm nights — it was intimate, modern and soul-soothing.
If you’re planning something more low-key (elopement vibes or an intimate celebration), places like this are perfection. You don’t have to go full resort if that’s not your thing.

Real Talk: What You Actually Need to Know
Let’s get you past the scroll and into action. Here’s what most wedding blogs don’t tell you:
- You don’t need to do it alone. Hire a planner who knows the local scene. Your resort might have one — but independent planners often bring extra magic.
- Symbolic vs. legal ceremonies. Most Canadians do the paperwork at home and have a symbolic wedding in Mexico.
- Weather matters. November to April is your sweet spot. Hot, sunny, no hurricane stress.
- Guests love an excuse. You might think “no one will come” — and then 40 people are booking flights. It happens.
- Give yourself buffer time. At least a full day before and after your wedding.

Should You Bring a Photographer from Home?
Short answer? You totally can — and there are some real perks.
If we’ve already met for engagement photos, or even just a coffee back home, that comfort shows up in the photos. You’ll feel more relaxed, more like you — and that connection translates into something real and lasting.
We speak the same language (literally and creatively), and you won’t have to navigate new contracts or communication barriers while juggling a million wedding details.
That said, I have deep respect for local creatives — and if I’m coming into their country, I’ll always take the right steps. I apply for the proper permits and do my homework so everything runs smoothly and respectfully.
So if you’re dreaming of a destination wedding and you already know you love my work, why not bring that familiarity with you?
Same energy, same storytelling, new backdrop. Let’s make magic in the sun.
