As an Oceanstone Resort wedding photographer, this is one of the venues I’m always excited to return to along Nova Scotia’s South Shore.

Just minutes from Peggy’s Cove, Oceanstone offers that quintessential Nova Scotia coastal experience — ocean views, rocky shoreline, lush gardens, and a relaxed atmosphere that immediately makes guests feel like they’ve stepped into a seaside retreat.

Over the years I’ve photographed many weddings here, and it continues to be one of the most naturally beautiful and effortless places to host a wedding day in Nova Scotia.

Why Oceanstone Resort is Such a Special Wedding Venue

One of the things couples love most about Oceanstone Resort is how easily the entire wedding day can unfold in one place.

Getting ready spaces, ceremony locations overlooking the water, portrait areas throughout the gardens and shoreline, and the reception space are all located within steps of each other. This makes the day feel relaxed and seamless, allowing couples to stay present rather than worrying about transportation or moving between multiple locations.

The property itself is filled with greenery and beautiful landscaping, with pathways that lead through gardens down to the ocean’s edge. Between the lush grounds and the coastal views, there are endless spots for portraits without ever leaving the venue.

Portraits Near Peggy’s Cove

Another advantage of getting married at Oceanstone Resort is its proximity to Peggy’s Cove.

Just five minutes down the road, the iconic lighthouse and rugged coastal landscape create an incredible setting for portraits. Many couples choose to step away for a short window of time to capture a few photographs there, adding another layer of classic Nova Scotia scenery to their wedding gallery.

Because it’s so close to the venue, the trip is quick and easy without disrupting the flow of the day.

The Light and Landscape

From a photography perspective, Oceanstone is one of those venues where the environment naturally does so much of the work.

The oceanfront location means light moves beautifully across the property throughout the day. Morning preparations feel soft and calm, afternoon ceremonies overlooking the water are bright and airy, and evening portraits along the shoreline often glow with incredible coastal sunset light.

Between the gardens, the rocky shoreline, and the open views across the Atlantic, every direction offers something visually interesting to photograph.

Film Photography

Oceanstone is also one of those venues that translates beautifully onto film. The coastal light, soft ocean tones, and natural greenery throughout the property create colours and textures that film captures in such a timeless way. When I photograph weddings here, I often incorporate both digital and film photography throughout the day. The softness of film paired with the natural coastal environment feels incredibly fitting for this setting, and many couples love seeing their wedding documented in a way that feels both nostalgic and refined.
